Set everything up while parked. Don't handle your phone while driving. Drivehelp is an aid, not a substitute for watching the road. Always obey posted speed limits and local laws about phone mounts and windshield displays.

How to use Drivehelp

Five minutes in the driveway and you're set.

First-Time Setup

  1. Open Drivehelp and enter your first name so Emma can use it in alerts.
  2. Pick your max speed. This is your personal limit, not the posted limit.
  3. Allow Location so Drivehelp can measure your speed. Choose Always if you want the "I noticed you're driving" notification.
  4. Add your car: a photo, tank size and MPG.
  5. Try a demo drive (Settings → Test mode) to hear the alerts while parked.
Tip: Turn up the volume and connect to your car's Bluetooth before you drive, so you'll hear Emma.

Using HUD (Windshield) Mode

  1. While parked, tap HUD on the dashboard screen.
  2. Lay the phone flat on the dash, screen up, below the windshield.
  3. Drivehelp shows a mirrored display on pure black at full brightness, so it reads correctly in the glass.
  4. If it looks backwards, change the mirror direction in Settings.
  5. Tap the screen to leave HUD mode.
HUD reflections are easiest to see at dusk and at night. Make sure the phone can't slide, doesn't block your view, and that dashboard displays are allowed where you drive.

Keeping Fuel Accurate

  1. Tap the fuel gauge to open the Fuel screen.
  2. Without credits: set your tank level by hand with the sliders and tap Save. When you buy fuel, use Log a fill-up (what you paid, plus gallons or the price per gallon, or "I filled it up"). Fill-ups build your monthly spending.
  3. With credits: you can also snap your dashboard while stopped, or tell Drivehelp ("about a quarter tank", "I just put in $20 at 3.49", "filled it up").
  4. The range then counts down using the GPS miles you drive.
  5. Update it again whenever you fill up, or if the estimate drifts.
Gauge broken? Your tank size and MPG let Drivehelp estimate range from what you tell it.

Gas Stations & Directions

  1. With credits, search "Where to?" and get in-app Google Maps turn-by-turn with live traffic.
  2. For directions in another app, choose Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze in Settings → Directions. Without credits, Drivehelp offers to open directions there.
  3. Tap ⛽ Take me to the nearest gas station. Membership-only stations (Costco, Sam's Club, BJ's) are skipped.
  4. When fuel is low, Emma calls out gas stations coming up. This works without credits.

Planning a Trip by Voice (credits)

  1. Before you set off, ask Drivehelp something like: "Take me to Jake's house, then Walmart to buy noodles, then a gas station with no membership, then Home Depot, then home."
  2. Drivehelp lines up the stops and starts directions to the first one.
  3. It waits until you've left a stop before routing you to the next.
  4. You can also ask "How much did I spend on gas this month?" or "What was my top speed today?"
Only use voice when it's safe and legal. AI answers can be wrong, so double-check anything important.

Siri & Shortcuts

  1. Say "Start Drivehelp" to open the speedometer.
  2. Say "Start HUD in Drivehelp" to open straight into windshield mode.
  3. Find more actions in the Shortcuts app, such as your fuel, range, current speed, last trip and this month's fuel spending (no account needed).
  4. "Ask Drivehelp" sends a question to the assistant (uses credits).

Credits, sign-in and your account

The basics need no account. Drivehelp Packs add the AI, voice, places and directions features. Sizes and details are on Drivehelp Packs.

What's a credit?

Credits pay for the voice co-pilot, photo reading, trip planning, "Take me somewhere", natural voices and transcription, and Google places, search and directions. A quick voice question uses a fraction of a credit; longer chats, photo reading and live directions use more. See packs →

Do credits expire?

No. Credits never expire, and there's no subscription. Packs are one-time purchases through Apple.

Do I need an account?

Only for credits. Sign in with Apple or Google to buy packs and use the features they power. Speed alerts, HUD, the fuel gauge, trips, drowsiness and break reminders, cars, service, routines, saved places and community reports work without one.

I'm switching phones. What do I do?

On the old phone, open Settings → Move to a new phone → Export and save or send the .drivehelpbackup file to yourself (Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop or Mail). On the new phone, use Import, then sign in with the same account to get your credits back. We don't move your data for you, because we never have it. The file holds your driving history, so keep it safe.

I bought credits and they're missing.

Make sure you're signed in with the account you bought them on, then open Settings → Drivehelp Packs and tap Restore / check my purchases. Still missing? Call us at +1 (469) 345-1412 with your account code from Settings → Drivehelp Packs ready.

How do I delete my account?

Open Settings → Account → Delete my account. This deletes your account and its credits, and revokes Sign in with Apple for Drivehelp. Your trips and places on the phone aren't affected. You can also ask us to delete it.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases are made through Apple, so refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If Apple refunds a purchase, those credits are removed.

What gets sent when I use credits?

Your request, a photo if you use photo reading, and the app data needed to answer, such as speed, fuel or approximate location. It goes through our server to Anthropic, OpenAI or Google, and our server keeps only billing records, never the content. See the Privacy Policy.

I used my own API keys before.

Keys are no longer needed: these features now use Drivehelp Packs. You can delete old keys in your provider's console. More.

Drive together, if you want to

Community features are optional and off until you turn them on. Your places and routines stay on your iPhone.

How do road reports work?

Turn on Share and see road reports in Settings → Community. Then report police, a hazard, a crash or a traffic jam by tap, or just say it: "there's police here." Drivers nearby get a heads-up.

A report lasts 45 minutes. Drivers passing it are asked "Is it still there?". A "yes" keeps it up another 45 minutes, and two "not there" answers take it down. Community reports can be wrong, so always go by what you see. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what's sent and how long it's kept.

How do I turn community features off?

Open Settings → Community and switch off road reports, Talk with drivers nearby and Share anonymous speeds. Drivehelp stops sending right away, and what was already sent expires and is deleted from our server automatically. All three are off unless you turned them on.

How do I report or block a driver?

In Settings → Community, swipe a Talk message to Report or Block it. A message is hidden after 2 reports, and a sender with 3 hidden messages in a week is paused for 24 hours. Profanity, slurs, links and phone numbers are rejected automatically. You can also email us at abovealltheselove@gmail.com.

How do routines work?

Tell Drivehelp something like "every weekday at 8:30 I go to work", or add one in Settings → Routines. At that time, Drivehelp asks if you're heading there and starts directions. Holidays are skipped. Routines are stored only on your iPhone.

How do I share a place?

Open a saved place and share it. Drivehelp makes a .drivehelpplace file with the name, address, notes, photos, voice memo and your first name, and you send it with Messages, Mail, AirDrop or any app in the share sheet. It goes straight to the person you choose, not through us. They open it and tap Add to my places.

What are connectors?

An optional feature for developers. Connect your own HTTPS service with your own token, and the co-pilot can use it for you, for example to order food. The co-pilot's part uses credits, connector calls go straight from your phone to your service, and you approve any change. See the developer guide.

Something not right?

Quick fixes for the most common issues.

My speed looks wrong or shows WEAK.

GPS speed needs a clear view of the sky. It can lag or drop out in tunnels, parking garages and dense downtowns. Give it a few seconds outdoors. Your car's speedometer always takes precedence.

I don't hear alerts when I switch to Maps or lock the screen.

Make sure Location is allowed (Settings → Drivehelp → Location), that you started Drivehelp before switching apps, and that the volume is up and the mute button in Drivehelp isn't on.

Why can't I mute the 95 mph warning?

The 95 and 100 mph license warnings are built in on purpose. The mute button silences your own limit alerts only.

"I noticed you're driving" never appears.

It needs Location set to Always, Motion & Fitness allowed, and notifications on for Drivehelp. If you're riding along, tap I'm a passenger.

Drowsiness detection isn't working.

It needs an iPhone with Face ID, camera permission, and the phone mounted so the front camera can see your face. It can't run in HUD mode, when the phone lies flat. It's a backup, never a reason to keep driving tired.

My fuel range is off.

Range is an estimate. Check your car's tank size and MPG, then update your fuel level from the Fuel screen. Updating at each fill-up keeps it close.

The nearest gas station is closed or wrong.

Station details come from map data and can be out of date. Always confirm before relying on a station, especially when fuel is low.

A feature says I need credits, or fails.

Check that you're signed in and have credits left in Settings → Drivehelp Packs, and that you have an internet connection. If you bought credits and they're missing, see above.

The HUD looks backwards in the glass.

Change the mirror direction in Settings. If the whole screen is upside down, use Settings → Screen → Flip screen 180°.

Can I use km/h?

Yes. Choose mph or km/h in Settings.

Does Drivehelp back up my trips?

Not automatically. Your trips, cars, fuel log, places and routines stay on your iPhone with no iCloud sync, and deleting the app deletes them. To keep them, export a backup with Settings → Move to a new phone (how).

Who is Emma?

Emma is the voice of Drivehelp's alerts, pre-recorded with the open-source Kokoro text-to-speech model and bundled in the app, so alerts work offline.
